Corporate Social Responsibility—you’ve heard this term a lot lately. Businesses promote themselves as being socially responsible because it’s a good for society. But, it’s also good for business. Consumers are not only buying products that are socially responsible, they are choosing to do business with companies that are socially responsible. Studies show that corporate social responsibility:

  • Builds brand loyalty
  • Increases sales and profits
  • Attracts investors
  • Attracts and motivates talent
  • Improves employee retention
  • Gives you and your customer a competitive edge

So, selling and using products that promote corporate social responsibility is—simply put—smart. One way you can be socially responsible is to promote, purchase, and use products made by social enterprises and fair trade organizations that manufacture goods for the sole purpose of funding their social programming. Helping Hand Partners partners with a variety of social enterprises and fair trade organizations that manufacture a wide array of unique, high-quality products including jewelry, bath products, housewares, and food. Here are just a few ways to use our socially responsible products and make a difference at the same time:

  • Promotional Products
  • Customer and employee loyalty programs
  • Rewards & recognition
  • Sales meetings
  • Incentive travel
  • Room gifts and Welcome Bags
  • Weddings & Special events
  • Donor “Thank You” gifts
  • Retail
  • Corporate Inventory

It takes so little to make a big impression and an even bigger difference. Build your brand with corporate social responsibility.

Ping Pong for Social Good?

Posted on

[tweetmeme]

How are tech geeks using the game of ping pong to inspire a social good initiative?

A group called TechiesGiveBack, a nonprofit that looks for ways the tech community could give back, launched an event called BackSpin2011. The idea was to raise money for a charity organization called Child’s Play. No, not the creepy Chuckie movies. Child’s Play is a non-profit organization that provides books, games and video game consoles to hospitals across the country.

So what was BackSpin 2011?

Using Xbox’s Kinect, TechiesGiveBack provided a fun atmosphere with their ping pong tournament. Several tech companies around the NYC area took part in the action, including CollegeHumor.com, Google, The New York Times and Foursquare. Some of the players competed on team levels while a few competed individually. In addition to the virtual table tennis game, TechiesGiveBack also provided an open bar, MCs from CollegeHumor and even some crazy costumes in the mix. Using a virtual tournament provided a more level playing field for everyone involved than hosting a real ping pong tournament.

Was the event a success? Absolutely. The half party/half networking event raised $12,000 for Child’s Play. Who says helping out can’t be fun? More info about the tournament can be found at Mashable.

Bieber Gives Back

It may be annoying to keep hearing about him and the hair may too much for some. The truth remains, believe it or not, Justin Bieber is doing a lot of social good out there.

When he’s not clogging up Twitter’s servers, he leverages his success in a positive way by helping support several charity efforts. According to an article found here, Bieber is donating $1 for every ticket sold to his concerts to Pencils for Promise, an organization active in trying to build schools in third world countries. Almost all of his concerts are sold out, so this eventually turns into a significant amount of money.

In addition to concert ticket contributions, the Bieber is also donating money from every album he sells to the Children’s Miracle network. Not only is he getting in on the act but he’s leveraging his rabid fanbase to join him in supporting these causes.

Think what you want of the kid but there’s some good going on behind the hair. None of us have the celebrity power that he does. However, how are you using the influence and resources you have to drive social good? How are others you know?

Social Media = Social Change

[tweetmeme]

This last Saturday night we saw Betty White grace our television sets as probably the oldest host of Saturday Night Live in recent history. It was a huge comedy and ratings success for NBC, thanks largely do to social media. If it weren’t for Facebook, something White refers to in her monologue as a “huge waste of time,” we wouldn’t have been able to experience that night of hilarity.

Betty White isn’t the first benefactor of enthusiastic social media users. During the NBC late night debacle, fans of Conan O’Brien raised tons of support for him under the banner “I’m With Coco.” It was a viral following that most likely allowed for the success of his current multi-city tour and what will most likely be his triumphant return to late night.

All these massive successes credit most of it to the enthusiasm and passion of social media users. If social media can rally around Conan or put the unlikely hostsess that was Betty White on Saturday Night Live, think of the other possibilities.

Couldn’t we use our power and influence for good?

Through social media, we as consumers are able to influence some of the largest companies out there. Think if half the energy that went into getting Betty White onto Saturday Night Live went towards some social purpose. What could we accomplish? During the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti, we saw how Twitter and mobile devices were able to help raise millions upon millions of dollars in a short time for relief. We have a great power with social media. Think of how many people we could help if we channeled that energy in the right direction.

Certainly we can have a bigger viral accomplishment than the rise of Justin Beiber.
